Artist Statement

I am a Belgian artist, both painter and ceramic sculptor. My work is best described as intuitive expressionism, because my art starts from my heart, feeling and intuition. The art that I make is symbolic, layered and full of expression, with layers of energy going beyond what can be expressed with words.

My art reflects my journey toward inner freedom. It is a visual exploration of letting go - shedding limiting beliefs, old patterns, and outdated identities that no longer serve me. Each piece marks a step in dismantling what holds me back, creating space for truth, growth, Light and authenticity.

Guided by intuition, I create artwork that honors beauty in all its forms. I truly believe that when we live from the heart, miracles become possible, not only for ourselves but also for the people around us.

Biography

Saylee is her artist name, chosen for personal and symbolic reasons, and it is linked to her birth in Afrika.

She is currently living in Hasselt, Belgium, but she was born and raised in different African countries due to her fathers work. Her love for the African continent, its people and its nature is an influence you will regularly see coming back in her artwork.

From a very small child, she had a passion for creating. Every spare moment, she was crafting or drawing. At that time it was already clear that art would become a very important part of her life. Over the years, she has undertaken a variety of art programs and masterclasses, and she discovered that her true passion lies within painting and sculpting in clay.

Her current home studio in Hasselt Belgium, is oriented south so there's a lot of sunshine coming in, inspiring and enlightening her throughout the creative process.

She is currently working on her “Aurum” series, a series of paintings with a golden glow. Gold as a symbol of inner light/ inner spark, showing through.

"I LOVE colors! I think the African colors got inprinted in the little girls that I was, living in Africa. The colors of the golden sun-kissed nature, the bright colorful fabrics, the flowers, the sunsets,... I feel like every color has it's own story to add to a painting, sometimes just by being present. They all add their unique touch to the final piece. My paintings are about Hope, Resilience and Presence with what IS. And therefrom Freedom and Authenticity can arise."

Process

My painting process is almost never the same, although certain elements are key to my process and my voice. I like to follow the flow, the magic of the moment, and see where my intuition leads me. Texture, marks, skratching, motion, wiping and dripping, are all part of my painting toolbox. I always work in multiple layers, to build up the final painting, and follow my inner guidance along the way. The beauty and symbolism of animals, nature and human nature is a big inspiration to me. My subjects help me convey a message that carries feeling, emotion, atmosphere and depth, beyond what can be said with words.
